What is an appropriate age to get a smartphone?

This survey produced some interesting results as it totally contradicts the actual phone ownership figures. It seems that many of us are now regretting giving our kids phones at an early age

The average age for a child to receive their first smartphone is typically 11 to 12 years old. Ownership rates increase significantly around this time, with roughly 71% of 12-year-olds owning a smartphone, rising to 91% by age 14. Studies indicate many children now receive their first smartphone at age 10 or younger.

Key insights on smartphone ownership age:

Key Milestones: By age 10, 42% of children own a phone, and by age 12, that number jumps to 71%

Pre-teen Ownership:Data suggests 11 is the most common age for the first smartphone.

Rising Trends:Ownership has increased for younger children, with one in three 8-to-9-year-olds having a phone in 2021, up from 11% of 8-year-olds in 2015.

Teen Ownership:Approximately 88% to 90% of teens aged 14 or older now own a smartphone.
